Dental inventory
Dental Inventory Software Requirements
Evaluate dental stock tracking, expiry dates, reorder rules and purchasing controls. Test stock adjustments across actual storage locations.
At a glance
Dental inventory software tracks supplies, quantities, storage locations and purchasing activity. Its usefulness depends on reliable stock movements and clear ownership; a product catalogue alone does not tell a team what is physically available.
The private prototype supports saved patient profiles, scheduling, visit statuses and recall tracking. Clinical, billing, insurance, messaging and website integrations described in our roadmap are not yet available for clinical use.
Review what is available →Define the unit before counting
A box, pack and individual item can describe the same supply differently. Ask the vendor to demonstrate receiving one purchasing unit and consuming another. Record conversion rules, storage locations and the person responsible for resolving a count discrepancy.
Include expiry and adjustment history
Test a delivery, partial use, damaged item and expired stock. Check whether the system can retain lot or expiry information when the practice needs it. Adjustments should show a reason and author so that unexplained changes do not quietly alter reorder decisions.
Make replenishment reviewable
Compare minimum-level alerts with suggested purchase quantities and supplier lead times. Decide who approves orders and how duplicate purchasing is prevented. Review a sample report against a physical count before trusting automatic reorder recommendations.
Inventory is planned
The current dental prototype does not track stock, purchasing or suppliers. This guide helps practices describe their requirements before evaluating inventory products or requesting future development.
Common questions
Is a product list enough for inventory management?
No. Reliable inventory also needs receipts, consumption, adjustments and clear units, with a way to reconcile the software against physical stock.
