Security checklist
Dental Software Security Evaluation Checklist
Ask dental software vendors for evidence on access controls, support access, audit logs, restoration, exports and incident response.
At a glance
A dental software security checklist should request evidence, not just a yes-or-no claim. Review technical controls, operational procedures and contractual responsibilities with the people responsible for privacy, IT and clinical operations in your practice.

Identity and access
Ask the vendor to demonstrate multifactor authentication where offered, least-privilege roles, account removal and controlled support access. Use a fictional record to test restricted actions. Record how the practice reviews permissions and what happens when a staff member changes role or leaves.
History and recovery
Request examples of audit events and the process for investigating a change. Ask about backup scope, restoration testing and the meaning of recovery commitments. A statement that backups exist does not establish whether all records and attachments can be restored in a usable state.
Suppliers and incident handling
Identify the organizations that process information and the responsibilities that remain with the clinic. Review support access, incident contacts, notification procedures and data return. Have qualified advisers assess the contracts and rules applicable to the practice’s location and information flows.
Record the decision
Keep requested evidence, unresolved questions and accepted limitations with the implementation record. Review the checklist when a new integration, supplier or workflow is added. Our prototype has not completed a production security review and must use fictional data only.
